User Experiences with Distributed Multimedia Conferencing Systems

چکیده
A field study of a nationwide U.S. Department of Defense systems development project, combined with other laboratory experimentation, explores an underemphasized factor in current distributed multimedia conferencing and group support system theories. The ability of an organization to effectively manage its technology environment to deliver distributed support systems is shown to have direct impacts on both the potential performance inputs and group interaction processes of distributed group work, which ultimately affects performance outcomes. This paper blends results from the DoD field study with results from several non-DoD laboratory experiments to support a new model of distributed multimedia conferencing systems and their effect on distributed group process and performance.

Multimedia Teleconferencing Control Gateway
Many current systems have computers supporting human-to-human interaction in realtime using multiple media. Such interaction can become complex, and multimedia teleconferencing control systems--or conferencing systems, for short--have been created to control the complexity and promote the development of applications. These systems provide media transport, transport resource management, and sess...

Multimedia conferencing over multiple Local Area Networks (LAN), or across a Wide Area Network requires the use of efficient multicast servers in order to function correctly. This paper presents a proposed Multiple LAN Internet Protocol Converter (MLIC) algorithm currently being implemented by the Network Research Group and Multimedia Research Labs Sdn. Bhd. for use with multimedia conferencing...
متن کاملBroadband Support for the Development of Distributed Multimedia Systems
Current interest in distributed multimedia systems has come from previous work on local and wide area networks. Video and audio services, such as those found in distance learning and video conferencing, have been one of the primary forces in the deployment of broadband services. The increased complexity of content found in multimedia systems and the distribution of this content across telecommu...
متن کاملA Comparison of Multimedia Conferencing Frameworks
Multimedia conferencing has been an important topic in recent years, because of the urgent requirement of high quality multi-party communications. There are various conferencing frameworks using different methods: H.323-based conferencing has already applied in use; SIP-based conferencing is emerging in market gradually. While centralized conferencing is becoming mature, distributed conferencin...
